Why do you need to drink water before ultrasound?

Drinking water is only necessary for abdominal and urinary ultrasounds. If the bladder is not full, it cannot be evaluated properly with ultrasound. The presence of tumor, bleeding, infection or stone in the bladder cannot be detected with ultrasound. In addition, the full bladder provides a clear view of the uterus and ovaries in women and the prostate in men.
